Man faces sex assault charge

A 37-year-old St. George's man was charged with sexual assault yesterday after allegedly violently breaching a restraining order.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not required to respond to the seven charges against him in Magistrates' Court as the matters are indictable.

The accused man was remanded to custody by Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves.

He will remain in custody until January 21 when he will appear in Supreme Court to plea to the charges against him.

Over the two days of January 3 and 4, the accused is said to have broken into the Vesey Street, Devonshire home of the woman, who was known him, to have behaved in a threatening manner and to have ultimately sexually assaulted the woman.

The man allegedly knew that he had been served with a court-issued restraining order which required him to avoid all contact with the victim, which added to the charges he faced in plea court yesterday.

Accused changes plea

A man, who appeared in the Supreme Court for sentencing on Monday, was allowed to change his plea to not guilty and was sent back to the lower courts for a trial date.

Chris Winslow Ray, 33, of Spring Hill, Warwick, is charged with three counts of breaking into a building, where he stole roughly $10 in change from three doctors' offices, and one count of attempting to break into another premises.

Ray was sent to the Supreme Court for sentencing by Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves after pleading guilty to the charges in Magistrates Court on November 27, 2003.
