Paedophile ex-cop is being kept completely isolated
Convicted paedophile and ex-cop John Malcolm White (Chalkie) is now being kept in an isolated section of the prison under 24-hour watch after he was assaulted by another prisoner on Wednesday.
Acting Commissioner of Prisons Hubert Dean told that White is being kept in the Administrative Segregation Area of the Prison ? in completely isolation on a continued suicide watch.
White was sentenced to spend 25 years behind bars in the Supreme Court this week for sexually assaulting three young boys when he was employed by the Bermuda Police Service.
He was convicted of ten charges of sexual assault which ranged from buggery to attempted buggery, sexual exploitation and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Mr. Dean confirmed yesterday that White was punched in the jaw.
He was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Wednesday shortly after noon for an X-ray as a precautionary measure.
No internal injuries were detected.
The Prison is currently conducting an internal investigation to determine how another inmate got close enough to assault the former Policeman.
Prison Officers are under strict orders to keep him away from other inmates.
?The investigation will not be made public, it will be dealt with internally,? said Mr. Dean
?We?re looking into reports of what went wrong.
?There may be action taken against certain staff members.?
Prison officials are also cautious about taking White out for exercise.
He must be taken out when no other inmates are around and he will not be participating in any classes.
?He will have no contact with other inmates,? said Mr. Dean. ?He will be the only one in that area.?
Mr. Dean said Prison officers suspected White was suicidal, however, White appears ?content to stay isolated?.
