The Sunshine League children's home has launched an appeal to fund an ambitious $100,000 refurbishment of its kitchen.

A spokesperson for the charity explained: "Believe me, we need it. No more rotting wood or leaking ceiling.

"We have ordered all stainless steel appliances to ensure our children have a safe and healthy environment to prepare, cook and store food."

The charity asked the public to help in restocking the kitchen shelves with items such as cutlery, ladles and mixing bowls.

It hopes to have the kitchen up and running by Thanksgiving.

Helpers should call 292-4360 and ask for Miss Outerbridge ("Aunt Jean") who has a list of items that are needed.
