4 The Roque family recipe for keeping insects away from your roses: Grate half a bar of castile soap to a gallon of water. You let it sit, and then you take that water and spray it over the roses.
? Another traditional approach is to soak tobacco leaves in water, and spray that water over the roses.
? The Bermuda Rose Society was started in 1954. Since the late 1980s it has tended the Repository Garden of the Bermuda National Trust at Waterville in Paget. It is an associate of the Royal National Rose Society, an affiliate member of the American Rose Society and Heritage Roses Group.
? The Bermuda Rose Society meets the first Friday of every month at 11 a.m. at the Horticultural Building at the Botanical Gardens in Paget.
"There is always a competition bench for our members," said Mrs. Hans. "The arrangements are absolutely gorgeous. The next competition theme will be : 'If I knew then what I know today'.
Members will share information about growing roses.
