May 18, 2013Dear Sir,Over Mother’s Day weekend, my family and I had the surprise, and pleasure, of a full Island tour by The Reef’s Thursday Night Guest Bartender, E Michael Jones. We could not thank him enough then ... but we’ll try to do so here.What started out as an invitation for a walking tour of St George’s somehow turned into “I’ll come pick you up, see you at 11”. We were a little perplexed and curious: Is he serious? Will he even show up? And of course, what did we get ourselves into?At 11am the next morning when the four of us piled into his convertible, we found out that yes, E Michael is for real. We were treated to a fully interactive, driving, walking, laughing, tasting, smelling (the Perfumery), learning tour of the beautiful Island of Bermuda.He showed us some of everything: trails, beaches, neighbourhoods, golf courses, grasses, gardens, trees, plants to brush your teeth with, hotels of all sizes, flowers of all shapes and scents, sailboats, research boats, and a who’s who of houses. We learned about Island history, the Spirit of Bermuda, which cherry trees have the best cherries, all about St George’s and even which colour to paint your house. I don’t believe E Michael missed a feature or highlight, even while walking backwards. We felt like royalty all day long, though I am left with the impression that perhaps E Michael is the real royalty.We arrived back at The Reefs bubbling over with information and amazement — I have been relating our fun and new-found knowledge to whomever will listen ever since.Yes, E Micheal is for real. We were treated to much more than a tour — we experienced a rare and most wonderful, refreshing, real-life example of courtesy, hospitality and graciousness. What a wonderful experience from a wonderful host.
