Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Kulandra Ratneser expects to make recommendations next month about whether criminal charges should be brought arising from the Bermuda Housing Corporation (BHC) scandal.

Mr. Ratneser told yesterday he is currently examining the matter after completing the Lagoon Park murder trial.

Files have been placed before Mr. Ratneser and he is still assessing the evidence before recommending to Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith if Police should charge anyone.

Several top level current and previous members of the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) have been linked to the scandal.

The fraud investigation has been on-going for almost two years into allegations of massive over-charging and corruption at the quango.

A team of Scotland Yard detectives was flown in on one occasion to advise Bermuda Police?s Commercial Crime Unit on how to proceed with the complex investigation.

Mr. Ratneser said yesterday: ?I am now looking at the whole matter and I should have recommendations for the Commissioner of Police towards the middle to end of April.?

Former general manager Raymonde Dill and housing officer Terrence Smith were fired after the controversy erupted in April 2002.

Separately, Smith, of Tee Street, Devonshire, and his wife, Veronica, have been charged already with two counts of false pretences with intent to defraud Capital G Ltd of $595,000 and $245,000.

The pair were released on bail of $50,000 each last November and have still to stand trial.
