Residents of Mary Victoria and Alexandra Roads advised 20 new BHC units are coming
Residents at Mary Victoria and Alexandra Roads have received letters informing them that 20 new units are planned at that site.
Shadow Housing Minister Wayne Furbert voiced his ?disappointment? over the development yesterday, saying Housing Minister Ashfield DeVent had failed in his promise to consult with area residents on the issue.
Mr. DeVent promised after an emotional debate in Parliament last year to withdraw the original plans for the site, which called for 34 units to be erected, and reconsider the application. Area residents had voiced loud fears about the overcrowding 34 new units would cause in the area.
In the letter dated April 12, 2005 obtained by , Mr. DeVent stated: ?I have instructed the Bermuda Housing Corporation to amend those plans for the Prospect area.
?The plans are currently being revised from the original 34 units to 20 new units to be constructed by adding a second storey to the ten buildings known as the ?flat tops?.
?As part of the ongoing plans for general improvement to the area, the 20 existing lower units will be renovated.?
was unable to obtain a comment from the Ministry of Housing yesterday.
