Goater warms the City bench
Shaun Goater's last-gasp goal which salvaged a point against Manchester United two weeks ago is not enough to get the Manchester City striker a place in the starting line-up against champions Arsenal today.
Goater came off the bench in the 86th minute against City's arch-rivals at Old Trafford to score in a record-breaking time of nine seconds.
The 32-year-old had the ball in the back of the United for a second time moments later, but the goal was ruled out for a handball by Goater's team-mate Nicolas Anelka.
After a blank weekend last week due to City's non-involvement in the FA Cup Kevin Keegan's men are back in action today with the Gunners the visitors to Maine Road.
The City boss is expected to keep faith with Anelka and new boy Robbie Fowler up front, despite the latter's average performances in his first two matches for the Blues.
"Robbie is a big match player," Keegan said. "I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks his duck for us against Arsenal on Saturday."
Kyle Lightbourne, meanwhile, is expected to be in the Macclesfield side which takes on Bristol Rovers in the Third Division today.
The Silkmen have had their last two matches called off due to bad weather and are desperate to get back to winning ways as they fight the very real prospect of relegation to the Conference.
Macclesfield are 22nd out of the 24 teams and have 28 points - the same as 23rd placed Rovers, who are one place above bottom side Exeter. The bottom two teams go down.
