St. George's Foundation chairman Louis Mowbray presented two cheques for $500 from an anonymous donor to the St. George's Historical Society and the Bermudian Heritage Association.

Mr. Mowbray said: "The mission of St. George's Foundation is to bring history to life by raising the funds to complete projects set out within the St.

George's Town Heritage Plan.

"Both of these St. George's-based organisations already do just that -- the Historical Society at its fascinating house museum and printery on Duke of Kent Street/Featherbed Alley and the Bermudian Heritage Association in its exhibition portraying the important role played by blacks in Bermuda's history, on display at the Samaritan's Lodge on the corner of York and Water Streets.'' Since its inauguration in 1997, the St. George's Foundation has worked in conjunction with the Government, the utility companies and the Corporation of St. George's to successfully complete restoration projects in St. George's.

Both Bermudian Heritage Association chairman Ross Smith and St. George's Historical Society vice president Tony Saunders paid thanks to the anonymous donor.

Mr. Smith said: "As an organisation relying entirely on the support of volunteers and on financial contributions from the community, this donation is particularly welcome.'' Mr. Ross said: "These funds will be a tremendous boost to us and will enable us to continue to enhance the reputation and work of the Historical Society.''
