Breaking News: Life sentence for murderer
Andre Hypolite was handed a life sentence this morning for murdering Nicholas Dill.
He had been convicted of the crime on Friday night, following a three-week retrial at the Supreme Court.
The jury had heard gruesome evidence of how Hypolite went on the attack with a knife amid a drug-fuelled sex party at the victim’s home on Boxing Day 2004.
The 37-year-old defendant must spend at least 15 years behind bars until he can be considered for parole.
He has been in jail ever since he was arrested three days after the slaying on December 26 2004.
He was handed a term of two years to run concurrently for wounding Mr. Dill’s girlfriend, Stacey Pike, by chopping her in the head during the same incident.
Time already spent in custody will be taken into account.
