Excitement building for All-Star weekend

Island Soccer League (ISL) commissioner David Bascome is preparing himself for a weekend to remember as the ISL All-Star weekend looms large over the Island.

The festivities kick off with the annual gala at the Grotto Bay Beach Hotel, followed by the Legends match and the main event, the ISL All-Star match.

With expectations high for the weekend, Bascome is anxious to get the festivities underway.

"My expectations are great, the ISL All-Stars are training very hard and the players and fans excitement about this event could only make you want to be apart of it," said Bascome.

"The East and West legends bring a different flavor to the event as well, it is always a pleasure to get to see the legends perform.

"They are the ones that laid down the groundwork for football in Bermuda.

"Last year we had FSC and the Gala which turned out to be a great success, but this year we have raise the bar a little by adding NISL professionals to play the ISL All-Stars.

This year's event will be hard pressed to outdo last year's, with the event being televised on Fox Soccer Channel (FSC), giving the players exposure to an international audience.

The Bermuda Sports Network (BSN), however, will have the honour of televising the game while also streaming via internet which will enable those not at the match to watch from the comfort of home.

Although he has close ties with many of the NISL players coming to tackle the local all-stars, Bascome made no qualms about where his allegiance lies.

"All-Star games are about entertainment and both teams' job will be to entertain, from goals to giveaways the fans are in for a treat.

"I will be rooting for the ISL players to give a great showing, as every one of them will be closely watched by scouts, the final outcome of having a successful all-star is not the result on the board but the experience and performance on the field.

"But, with all this said I must root for Bermuda ISL team, this is my country and my pride for it is great.

"The addition of Bermuda Sports Network has been great, they will be streamlining the game live on the web, this will allow fans and scouts from the NISL to view the game.

"I am looking forward to the whole event and feel that this will be one to be remembered."
