Thirteen Bermudians battled high winds and cool temperatures this week in the first of two Royal Academy of Golf junior tournaments in Ontario, Canada.

Chaka DeSilva led the local golfers in the Acton Junior Open, firing a first round 78 to put him in sixth spot in the 16-18 age group, four shots from the leader, Peter Dolman of Ontario.

Other locals in this age group, Rajesh Pachai and Neil Fenton, were well back after rounds of 87 and 89 respectively.

Several Bermuda golfers are in contention in the boys 12-15 age division with Matthew Durrant fourth after an opening 81. Fraser Hunt was seventh on 83, Oliver Pitcher 10th on 84 and Chris Smith 11th on 86. The leader was John Lindberg of Mississauga with a round of 75.

Also competing from Bermuda are Ravi Pachai (91), Mark Robinson (92), Eric West (93), Ryan Mello (94) and Cris Brough (98.

There were only two competitors in the girls group with Bermuda's Jennifer Spurling shooting the low score of 84.
