Fire Safety Week kicks off Monday
The Annual Fire Safety Awareness Week kicks off on Monday as students all over the Island participate in tours, fire safety shows and an essay and poster contest.
Public Safety Minister Senator David Burch will officially open Fire Safety Week on Monday at the Fire Service Headquarters, on King Street at 10 a.m.
Schoolchildren ranging from nursery to Middle School will visit the three fire stations for scheduled tours, a fire safety show, receive giveaways and fire safety information.
There will also be full scale static displays of residential floor layouts showing the public how to plan an escape in case of fire.
In addition, Sparky and Flashy, the two fire service mascots will be on hand to greet the students along with the firefighters who will be giving the tours.
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the annual Martin E. Grimes Memorial Essay Contest and Poster Contest which is sponsored by the Bermuda Broadcasting Company.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each category.
Fire Safety Awareness Week takes place from October 29 to November 2.
