Bermuda's Red Cross will be out in force tomorrow to mark International Red Cross/Red Crescent Day.

May 8 marks the anniversary of the birth of the medical charity's founder, Henry Dunant.

Mr. Dunant founded the International Red Cross in Geneva, Switzerland in 1863 and was awarded the first-ever Nobel Peace Prize in 1901.

The Bermuda Red Cross will be setting up booths at the Bank of Butterfield on Reid Street and the Rosebank branch, Miles Supermarket, Bank of Bermuda Front Street and Washington Mall.

Red Cross pins will be distributed at the booths as well as brochures and membership forms. Information on CPR and First Aid courses and blood, organ and tissue donation will also be on hand.

"The aim of International Red Cross Day is to educate the public about the different services the Red Cross provides to its communities and to recruit volunteers," said a spokesman for the charity said.

The booths around Bermuda will also be selling first aid kits and tickets for the annual summer dinner-dance.
