Kyle's debut is just cool
Scarborough on Saturday when he came on for the final 10 minutes of the team's local derby match with joint leaders York City.
Scarborough won the clash 4-2 as top scorer Darren Foreman scored a first-half hat-trick with goals in the seventh, 14th and 20th minutes. After York pulled a goal back in the second half, Tommy Mooney got the other goal, his first in the league this year.
"I didn't play too long but I felt comfortable,'' said Lightbourne. "It was a bit cold, in fact it the coldest day since I've been here.
"I've noticed it getting colder as the days go by. Maybe I found it colder on the bench. I was warming up every 10 minutes.'' Lightbourne hardly had time to make a contribution though he said he nearly set up a fifth goal with his first touch but the chance was wasted. "The pace was real fast at that stage and they were trying to get back into the game,'' said Lightbourne. "The crowd (3,800) gave me a nice warm welcome when I came on.
"The way the game was going all they (York) needed was another chance to get back into the game. They had the first chance of the game and should have scored.'' The weather may contribute to Scarborough's League Cup match with Arsenal being postponed tomorrow night. According to Lightbourne the pitch was frozen yesterday and a decision could be made today on whether the game will go ahead.
If the match does survive the weather Lightbourne is confident he will be in the squad for the sold-out match against the former English champions.
"Looking at the performance of the team I don't think he'll (manager Ray McHale) make any major changes,'' said 24-year-old Lightbourne. "If he goes with strikers on the bench I think I'll be in.'' KYLE LIGHTBOURNE.
