for corruption by the force's Complaints and Discipline unit.

The first inquiry focused on Insp. Stuart Crockwell, said to have taken cash from two Police safes. That investigation has now closed with no action taken after the file was passed to Police Commissioner Jean-Jacques Lemay.

But another probe is still running into P.c. Dwayne Leverock, who was transferred out of the Police Prosecutions Department last week.

P.c. Leverock, a Somerset Cup Match cricketer, is now in a uniformed post at Central Division, based at Hamilton Police Station.

He is alleged to have taken money to tear up traffic tickets for motorists who feared they may have been approaching driving bans.

P.c. Leverock is said to have carried out the acts during his time in prosecutions.

Insp. Crockwell, former head of Bermuda's frontline Police Task Force, was accused of taking money from the Narcotics CID safe and Central CID safe.

He is said to have returned all the cash.

Insp. Crockwell, widely seen as a high flyer in the Police Service, is also an honorary Aide-de-Camp to the Governor.

And Mr. Lemay is said to have told senior officers investigating his case that the inquiry should go no further.

The Commissioner was presented with the case file last month. But a Police spokesman said last night that the Commissioner had "no comment'' on either inquiry.

P.c. Leverock, speaking from his home before going on the midnight to 8 a.m.

shift at Hamilton Police Station, simply told The Royal Gazette : "No comment.'' But Insp. Crockwell insisted his name had been cleared by the internal inquiries, led by Insp. Norman Ingemann of Complaints and Discipline.

"All those allegations are false,'' Insp. Crockwell said last night. "I would contact my lawyer, Richard Hector, if you run that story tomorrow.

"Any internal inquiries have been done -- there's been no action taken against me.

Police officers investigated "I know what it's all about. It's all about a promotions process.'' The investigation into P.c. Leverock was said to have begun when a Sergeant in the traffic division noticed that a speeding ticket for over 70 kph had not been properly processed.

Insp. Ingemann would not reveal details about either investigation.

He said: "Any queries should be directed to the force discipline officer, Deputy Commissioner Harold Moniz.'' A source at the Attorney General's Chambers said prosecution lawyers had heard about both internal Police inquiries.
