When the man accused of killing Wilfred Ming Jr. was arrested, he told Police: "Yes I did it'' and "no batty boy can jump me and mess me up.'' Winston Wellington Burgess, 31, of Turkey Hill, St. George's, denies unlawfully killing Wilfred Ming Jr. and intentionally causing him grievous bodily harm on September 10, 1994.

P.c. Dave Greenidge told the court yesterday that after seeing Ming covered in blood lying at the bottom of the stairs leading up the Canterbury Bar and Grill on Water Street in St. George's, he went to Burgess' residence.

"When I arrived at the bar I saw a light-skinned male lying on his back at the bottom of the steps and his upper body was covered in blood.

"I then attended a residence on Turkey Hill Road in St. George's and met with Burgess who was carrying a green bag. He threw the bag down and said: `Yes, I did it. Nobody f---- with me. Everything is in the bag'.'' P.c. Greenidge added that after being arrested, Burgess said: "No batty boy can jump me and mess with me. I know what I did.'' He also told the court that Burgess' had scratch marks under his left eye and his clothes were stained with blood.

Earlier, senior Government analyst Dr. Alan Young told the court that blood and urine samples taken from Ming were found to contain 175 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, which was equal to eight cans of beer.

One microgram of cocaine was also found.

Burgess had no signs of alcohol in his system.

He also said that the blood on the knife and on Ming's clothes matched blood on items seized from Burgess.

Dr. Young added that the test results showed Burgess would have had to have been in contact with Ming when he was bleeding.

Last week the court heard from several witnesses who said they heard Ming and Burgess arguing in the bar and then watched as they went down the steps.

They added that Ming kicked Burgess in the face and then punched him about the head while he was on the ground.

Paul Muhammed said he saw Burgess with a knife and told him to drop it but Ming said: "Drop the knife, I'll kill him.'' He added that he then saw Ming leaning against the wall trying to grab Burgess, and then he collapsed. Burgess later walked out.

The trial continues today before Puisne Judge the Hon. Mrs. Justice Wade.
