Deadline for police competition fast approaching

The deadline for entries for Bermuda’s primary, middle and high school students to be the Commissioner of Police for a day is fast approaching.The Bermuda Police Service issued a reminder that the deadline for entries for the best artwork and essay competition is Friday, September 27.The criteria for entries for the Commissioner for a Day contest varies for each school level.Students in Primary 1 (P1) to Primary 6 (P6) are required to draw pictures showing their impression of community policing.Students in Middle 1 (M1) to Middle 3 (M3) are required to write an essay (maximum of 350 words) outlining “If I were Police Commissioner I would ...”And students in Senior 1 (S1) to Senior 4 (S4) are required to write an essay (maximum of 500 words) outlining “How the Bermuda Police Service can build partnerships within the community.”Prizes for the best entries in each category will be given. The best artwork and essays will be chosen by a committee.A police spokesman said: “The winners will have the opportunity to ‘shadow’ the highest ranking members of the Police Service as they go about their daily duties on Wednesday, October 9.“Artwork and essays must be age appropriate work. Submissions must include name, age and a daytime contact of parent/guardian.“Teachers or parents/guardians must deliver artwork or essays to the public and media relations office at the Hamilton Police Station by 4pm on Friday.”
