deal with their anger, substance abuse and life in the outside world has prompted Prison Services to seek out professionals who can implement some new initiatives in these areas.

In recent days, HM Prisons has advertised in The Royal Gazette for an undisclosed number of professionals who have experience in developing and overseeing prisoner-oriented counselling programmes in the areas of substance abuse, anger management and the fostering of so-called life skills.

With the life skills and anger management programmes, the Services have directed, applicants should put forward their training and experience, the time periods in which they would be available and the estimated costs of their ideas.

They should also include "a description of the content and format of the material'' that they ultimately wish to employ.

In the case of the substance abuse initiative, applicants must be willing to work within the Prisons' own 12-step programme.

"We have a very high demand for these services but don't have a sufficient number of staff to provide them,'' Prisons psychologist Dr. Derrick Binns, who chairs its inmates programme committee, told The Royal Gazette .
