The girl -- believed to be around two years old -- was spotted by a truck driver wandering barefoot near Turtle Place, Southampton, around 4 p.m.
He stopped and tried to find out where the little girl came from and later approached Mrs. Dorothy Dowling to see if she knew her.
Mrs. Dowling, of Turtle Place, said: "I didn't know the girl but I said I would take her home. Then I contacted the Police and the radio station.'' The radio appeal was heard by the girl's aunt, who collected the child around 5.30 p.m.
Mrs. Dowling said: "I didn't catch the woman's name but the little girl was from Sunnyside Park, which is a fair distance away.
"I'm just glad no harm came to her and her family have got her back.''
