Drunk driving while disqualified cost a Devonshire man three months in prison yesterday.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves wasted no time in sending 30-year-old labourer Ricardo Caloura to prison.

Police saw Caloura driving his motorcycle erratically on East Broadway on February 4 and stopped him on suspicion of being intoxicated, Magistrates' court heard.

He admitted having had a few drinks and was found to be over the legal alcohol limit.

Through a translator, Mr. Greaves told Caloura that the fact that the offence was committed while he was disqualified from driving as a result of a previous drink-driving offence meant he had to go to prison.

"Tell him to tell his friends that," Mr. Greaves said.

He added that the sentence was "short" because "the Chief Justice said 'make it sharp and shocking'. I want to give you 12 months for this."

Caloura, a Cedar Drive, Devonshire resident apologised to the court after pleading guilty.
