Firm to take action on dumping
using a company truck to dump garbage on a nature trail.
Linda Smith, spokesperson for Belco which owns Bermuda Gas, yesterday said the company was "surprised'' to see a picture of a company truck, in Monday's edition of The Royal Gazette , allegedly in the process of performing a dirty deed.
The brazen driver dumped a load of garden refuse and other waste near Warwick Pond as environmentalists mounted a clean-up campaign.
A dozen volunteers from Works and Engineering, the National Trust and Keep Bermuda Beautiful gathered Saturday for a clean-up of the Railway Trail near Warwick Pond.
Ms Smith said disciplinary action will be taken against the litter bug who used a company truck over the weekend.
"There are procedures for using the company trucks,'' she explained. "And obviously there was a contravention of those procedures. It will be handled internally.'' Ms Smith said Belco was environmentally conscious and had taken part in KBB clean-up events.
"We support KBB, the National Trust and any other organisation that strives to keep Bermuda clean,'' she added. "This goes against company policy.'' ENVIRONMENT ENV
