Doctors remove bullet from Michéla Outerbridge's arm
Doctors have been able to remove a bullet left in schoolgirl Michéla Outerbridge's arm after she was gunned down on Easter Sunday.
The 17-year-old, who was shot three times outside the Western Stars Sports Club in Pembroke, was initially told by medics at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital that the surgery was too dangerous to perform.
But her brother Sergio Lottimore, 25, told The Royal Gazette yesterday: "My sister was discharged from the hospital on Saturday. The doctors decided to remove the bullet from her arm. The surgery took place on Saturday as well."
The shell — fired by drive-by shooters just before midnight outside the St. John's Road venue — was lodged in Michéla's lower right arm.
Her brother said the operation to remove it turned out to be a fairly quick procedure and that the family was pleased with the professionalism of the doctor involved and the end result.
"As to the bullet, nobody from my family ever saw it and my mom isn't sure what happened to it," he added.
His sister, a CedarBridge Academy student, also has gunshot wounds in her stomach, upper left arm and chest.
Mr. Lottimore said: "She's resting at home now. She wants some time to rest and reflect on what actually happened.
"Last week was a tiring one for her — and the family — so I think she just wants a little bit of normalcy. She is doing well and won't be in school until her wounds heal."
Truck driver Antoine Tuzo, 39, was also shot in the Easter Sunday attack. A bullet shattered the bone in the back of his right arm, before coming out of the other side and grazing his stomach. The Pembroke father-of-one has also been discharged from KEMH.
No arrests have been made in connection with the double shooting, which happened as the two victims enjoyed a party to celebrate Dandy Town football club's Premier Division win.
A Police spokesman said yesterday there was no update on the investigation but urged witnesses to call Police on 299-8115 or the independent 24-hour confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hot line on 800-8477.
