Khano makes early impression with touring Revs
Khano Smith appears to have quickly adjusted to life at the New England Revolution.
The 24-year-old Dandy Town striker is currently on football trials with the US Major League Soccer (MLS) side during a pre-season tour of Ecuador.
Smith scored against the Eastern Conference side during the Revolution?s brief tour of Bermuda earlier this month, a performance which immediately caught the eye of New England coach and former Liverpool great Steve Nicol.
?What we liked about what we saw from Khano when we played against the Bermuda national team has been reinforced in the initial training sessions in Ecuador,? Revolution technical director Joe Cummings told yesterday.
New England open their four match tour of Ecuador tomorrow night against local side Nacional in Guiyaquil where Smith is expected to see action with the Revs for the first time.
?We are anxiously looking forward to seeing him play with the Revs under match conditions on Wednesday night,? Cummings added.
New England?s squad have undergone minor changes from the one that visited the Island?s shores earlier this month, with defenders Jay Heaps, Jeff Larentowicz and Joe Franchino coming into replace Jeremy Piette, Nana Aadjei and Perek Belleh.
The Revolution arrived in Ecuador from Boston last Friday and are currently based at La Cuidad de Deportiva Carlos Perasso Sports Complex.
The MLS team have since held three training sessions at their temporary headquarters since their arrival and were due to have another run-out yesterday in preparation for tomorrow?s opening tour clash with Nacional.
Smith has previously undergone trials on both sides of the Atlantic. Last summer the Dellwood Middle School teacher was involved in trials at UK clubs Oxford United and Rochdale ? two years after signing a one-year contract at United Soccer League (USL) Division Three side Carolina Dynamo.
The Hornets striker and Lees-McRae College graduate also represented Bermuda during last year?s World Cup qualifying campaign and Digicel Cup tournament in St.Vincent.
Smith scored Bermuda?s first goal in a 3-2 loss against the Revolution at the National Sports Centre on March 3.
Recently crowned Under-13 and Under-15 youth football champions Dandy Town and North Village will be presented with their respective trophies during a special Bermuda Football Association awards ceremony to be held on the steps of City Hall this Saturday.
Representatives from youth football sponsors Appleby, Spurling, Hunter will also be present for the ceremony which begins at 12 noon.
