Lightbourne set to stay on as coach?
Kyle Lightbourne?s future as Bermuda?s national football coach remains up in the air.
The former Coventry City striker?s short-term contract expires at the end of next month.
Since succeeding Kenny Thompson as national coach last September, Lightbourne?s charges have chalked up an overall record of one win, a sole draw and three losses from five matches.
Bermuda?s victory on Lightbourne?s watch arrived in the opening Digicel Cup match in St.Vincent against Cayman Island last October. The national team then drew 1-1 with Digicel host St.Vincent before embarking on a current three-match losing skid with losses to British Virgin Islands, Santos and New England Revolution.
Lightbourne?s future with the national team is expected to be the focal point of discussion during Bermuda Football Association?s (BFA) next executive meeting.
With six weeks remaining on his contract, Lightbourne has already expressed an interest in carrying on his role as national coach.
He said: ?I have already spoken to Jon Beard (BFA technical committee chairman) on the matter and now we will have to wait for the final outcome. But I am prepared to stay on for another term.?
The national team is presently in a dormant state with June?s commitment against visiting Manchester City Youth Academy still some seven weeks away amid escalating reports hinting a potential incoming tour of the Island by an overseas club next month.
?I don?t know anything about that,? insisted Lightbourne on growing speculation of an incoming tour prior to Manchester City?s arrival in June.
?But we still have a whole month to prepare for Manchester City. We still have a lot of time to prepare and we are in the process of improving and ironing out a few things.?
Assessing Lightbourne?s performance of the job thus far from a personal perspective, Beard noted: ?From my point of view I am pleased with Kyle. I think the fellow has come in and done well with what we have there.
?But in terms of where we go from . . . that?s got to be a decision from the executive (BFA) and that?s the sort of decision that could be made at the next executive meeting.?
