Seniors? tea party tomorrow
First lady Olga Scott will be hosting the Premier?s Senior Citizen?s Tea Party at Botanical Gardens on Sunday.
The now retired Mrs. Scott said: ?I am looking forward to my new role,? although she doesn?t consider herself to be a senior citizen. ?My mother is in her 90s and she doesn?t think she is a senior.?
The tea party is popular with the Island?s elderly population and often the numbers of those attending range from 800 to 4,000 seniors.
?I think it is a very important day in their social calendar,? said Mrs. Scott. ?They get to see some of their friends and relatives, that they are usually unable to see as often as they like.?
The annual tea party starts at 3 p.m., but many seniors come directly from church and sit off to wait for the event to begin. The event will also have a live band, they usually have the Bermuda Regiment Band, but they are booked elsewhere said Trina Burch, Government protocol officer.
Ms Burch said everyone gets involved in the event the The Rotarians, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Sigma Xi Omega, and the Parks Department staff play a major role in setting up and breaking down the event.
