Nusum KiXXs off season with goal

While Khano Smith was languishing on the sidelines in his side?s season finale, Bermuda?s other stateside player was enjoying a goalscoring season debut.

A knee injury forced Smith out of the New England Revolution?s 1-0 defeat to LA Galaxy on Sunday in Texas and the player will now return home to Bermuda for the winter hoping that coach Steve Nicol will invite him back for next year?s campaign.

While Smith will have a long rest over the festive season ? he won?t risk playing for former club Dandy Town ? Nusum is playing another of his back-to-back seasons.

After less than a month off after finishing his campaign in the USL Division One with the Virginia Beach Mariners, Nusum is back with the Phildapelphia KiXX of the Major Indoor Soccer League ? and picking things up where he left off after his Rookie of the Year season in Pennsylvania.

Nusum, fast becoming one of the club?s stars, scored in the season opener, a 7-6 thriller against the California Cougars on Saturday night at the Wachovia Spectrum in front of more than 7,000 fans.

Nusum?s unassisted goal put his side an incredible 5-0 ahead although a two-minute sin-binning for tripping ? earning him the dreaded blue card ? helped the Cougars pounce back into contention.

On Friday night they take on the reigning MISL champs Millwaukee Wave.

Veteran David Bascome?s Baltimore Blast had already beaten the Cougars in the first-ever game in the MISL on Friday night, winning 9-4 in front of a sell-out 11,519 crowd.

Bascome?s side take on the St. Louis Steamers this weekend.
