New ferries arrive today
Bermuda will get two new foil catamaran ferries today. Marine and Ports will have the Tempest and Venturilla in the water for the Cup Match holiday.
Transport Minister Ewart Brown, said: "This delivery represents the fulfillment of this Government's promise to provide viable alternatives to the roads". He also said that there were special preparations for the vessels and there will be a Christening ceremony on August 6.
When asked about the construction at the Albouy Point ferry terminal Director of Marine and Ports, Barry Coupland, said the construction is maintenance on the old dock, which was damaged by Hurricane Fabian.
The changes were necessary because after Fabian, Marine and Ports redesigned some of the docks so that the structures would hold up in future hurricanes.
Mr. Coupland stressed their "prime concern is safety" and was pleased to report that "so far there's been a lot of common sense and cooperation" from the public, private enterprises and ferry workers.
