Government has tabled a bill to exempt the Bermuda Housing Corporation from paying duty on building materials for house projects.

The bill will also apply to the Harbourside Village building project at Southside by Bermuda Homes for People Ltd.

Finance Minster Paula Cox said the law should be passed by the House of Assembly before the Christmas break and is part of the Government?s commitment to a social agenda in housing.

She said it would help put homeownership within the reach of families who had been priced out of the market.
