produced two vastly contrasting games.

In one of the most entertaining games seen in recent years, Teachers and Police shared 60 points as their see-saw battle eventually finished in a 30-30 draw.

But Renegades and Mariners found that a hard act to follow as they also shared the spoils but could only score six points between them.

It was end to end action between Teachers and Police with the latter leading 22-17 at the half following tries from Tim Carr, Dan Cozens and Gareth Davies supplemented by two conversions and a Carr penalty.

Teachers kept in touch with Andrew Correia scoring the first try and then Heath (Butch) Robinson racing some 70 yards to add a second under the posts.

Andre Simons, who was to collect 20 points, kicked two conversions and a penalty.

After the restart the Blues appeared to be coasting when Dave Bird crashed over for a try. Carr missed the conversion but soon added another three points from a penalty in reply to a Simons' kick.

Ten points adrift with only minutes remaining, Teachers appeared to be beaten, but Simons had other ideas as his well angled run left the midfield grasping air as he waltzed over for a try and converted.

Teachers' pressure then resulted in Simons adding a penalty which left the scores all square and had Mike Montgomery's late drop kick attempt succeeded, they would have pulled off a memorable victory.

Renegades and Mariners were always going to struggle to provide similar entertainment, particularly after Gades' Phil Heaney suffered an injury during the pre-game warm-up.

They were forced to re-organise, bringing former centre Mike Gorrie out of retirement and borrowing Police player Dave Bird for his second game of the day.

Mariners were also missing key players in a game which was littered with mistakes.

Declan O'Loughlin gave Mariners a 3-0 half-time lead, while Tom Dixon replied with a 40 yard penalty for Gades after the break.
