Boaters get advice
Mariners are being encouraged to check their boats on a regular basis during the winter months.
Yesterday the Marine Police issued a reminder as well as several checks that boat owners should be doing throughout the colder months, including:
• Battery systems kept in good condition and fully charged to ensure the bilge pumps work.
• Remove any valuable items or gear from the boat.
• Moorings and bridles should be checked to ensure integrity and security of the boat during winter storms and gales.
• Ensure vessels are properly secured before any inclement weather. Do not do risk this during a storm.
• If off the Island the boat owner should organise for someone to check the boat while away.
• Consider hauling the boat out of the water during the winter season if possible.
