Schaefer have finally charged a man in connection with her death.

Schaefer, 23, died instantly in a head-on smash on Kindley Field Road near the airport almost five months ago.

Now Police have formally charged a 32-year-old chef, arrested immediately after the crash on September 27.

The man, a non-Bermudian living in St. George's, will appear before magistrates at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

He has been answering to Police bail during the inquiry into Catrin's death.

But the suspect will face charges of causing death by dangerous driving, now the file has been passed to the Attorney General's Chambers.

Schaefer's death sent shockwaves throughout Bermuda.

She was on a one-week study trip from Dusseldorf University to the Bermuda Biological Station for Research.

But her life was snuffed out when she rode home to the station's Wright Hall campus following a night out to celebrate the end of her trip.

Friends said Schaefer spent the evening drinking only soft-drinks.

And they said she was "nervous'' and "unsteady'' on her bike, travelling only slowly wherever she went.

Meanwhile, Police are still piecing together their inquiry into the taxi crash which killed tireless volunteer worker Sybil Belboda.

Mrs. Belboda, awarded the Queen's Certificate and Badge of Honour in 1997, was the 18th and last person to die on Bermuda's roads in 1998.

The 71-year-old died after days of intensive care treatment failed to save her from head injuries.

She was fatally injured when her taxi collided with a post just half a mile from her home on Bulkhead Drive, Warwick on December 28.

Front seat passenger Mrs. Belboda and her husband Roland caught the taxi home after an early morning hospital appointment.

Mr. Belboda escaped the crash with minor injuries and the taxi driver, initially arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, was unhurt.

Police say the case is continuing against the 42-year-old from Warwick but he is no longer bound by Police bail.

Man charged in German's death Officers say they have also traced a white Mitsubishi taxi, seen outside the hospital between 3.20 and 3.30 a.m., to take witness statements from the driver.

Mrs. Belboda was honoured by the Queen for years of cleaning away trash for her neighbours.

A Police spokeswoman said last night: "A man will be appearing in Magistrates court at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in connection with the Catrin Schaefer accident.

"The investigation is continuing into the incident which caused the death of Mrs. Belboda.

"A man is still helping Police with their inquiries and he hasn't been charged as yet.

"But statements have been taken, interviews have been conducted and witnesses have been traced.'' MANSLAUGHTER MURDER MUR
