All smiles for Village after Cup draw
Form team North Village are probably one of the happiest sides after a busy day of cup draws yesterday, picking up First Division opposition in the second round of their attempt to defend the FA Cup and comfortably the easiest draw in the Friendship Trophy semi-finals.
Dwayne (Streaker) Adams? men, who have hit a purple patch in recent weeks after a slow start to the season, face a trip to Paget on February 12 in the second round of the premier cup competition and will be delighted to face Ireland Rangers in a January 17 Friendship final-four clash.
Dandy Town?s Maurice Lowe actually pulled the Ireland Rangers name from the cup during the draw at Captain?s Lounge yesterday lunchtime, handing Village a tie against the Premier whipping boys while his side face PHC on January 31.
Town, who have already picked up the Martonmere Cup this term, are at home to Division One Wolves in the FA competition while there is only one all-Premier Division tie in the last 16 with Devonshire Cougars taking on Devonshire Colts.
?You have to take what you can in the FA Cup,? said Gary (Tuba) Mallory, assistant coach of the Cougars.
?It?s not a bad draw but there are not any easy games in this competition and Colts are a side who demand a lot of respect.
?It will be a tough game but hopefully by then we will have a few players back ? we might even have a full team by then.?
PHC will be delighted with their draw as they face the only Commercial side left in the competition after an opening round of few upsets, paying a visit to St. George?s All-Stars.
In other matches, Southampton Rangers take on Young Men?s Social Club, Somerset Eagles will play at Ireland Rangers, last year?s beaten finalists Hamilton Parish take on St. George?s while Prospect play in-form X-Roads.
In the Shield semi-finals, St. George?s play Paget while the winner of YMSC and Wolves take on X-Road Warriors.
Meanwhile the festive Dudley Eve Champions Cup gets underway tonight with Cougars taking on North Village at Somerset Cricket Club.
Andrew Bascome?s men are still reeling from a mid-season injury crisis and will have to perform well against a rampant Village side who made mincemeat out of league leaders Somerset Trojans in last weekend?s Friendship action.
Cougars, who were missing eight in their Friendship defeat to Dandy Town at the weekend, are unlikely to have any of their key players back just yet and will have to rely heavily on their team spirit, determination and Bascome?s tactical nous once again against Adams? in-form troops.
St. George?s and Paget, who were drawn to play each other in the Shield semi-final next month, clash in the curtain-raiser at 7 p.m.
Bermuda Football Association are now selling fans? shirts from both their Cedar Avenue headquarters and various local sports shops.
The white shirts are available plain for $35 and with printed ?Play to Live? logos on the back for $45.
