Devonshire Cougars captain Chris Caisey has called on his teammates to put further distance between themselves and defending Premier Division champions DandyTown when the pair meet tomorrow at St John’s Field.League leaders Devonshire Cougars are currently six points clear of third place Town, and a win for Cougars will ultimately put paid to the champions ambitions of repeating their feat of a year ago.Skipper Caisey knows the importance of the match, and wants to make amends for the first league encounter between the two sides that saw Town win on foreign soil.“Every game from now until the end is important, whether it is a top half team or a bottom half team. We have to play like our lives depend on it because no team is going hand us the league title.“You have teams still fighting for a Dudley Eve spot, FA Cup and top flight survival, so no team would be easy pickings, we have to fight.“We have Town this week, and yes we would look to extend the gap between us and them because even though we hold a six point gap on our rivals we still see Dandy Town as a threat.”Another key point will be the result of second place PHC and bottom dwellers Robin Hood, with the former being five points back and having a chance to heap further pressure on the leaders.North Village are also in the mix, level on points with Town.Town dropped three crucial points last weekend against the Zebras to lose vital ground and failure to beat Cougars at home on Sunday in the top match would virtually eliminate them from the race, with nine points behind the leaders and with five games to play after this weekend.A Town win, on the other hand, will make things very interesting as it would cut Cougars’ lead and give one or two other teams renewed hope in the league race which could still come down to the last round of matches on March 24 when Cougars travel to Southampton Oval, PHC visit Wellington Oval and Town host Wolves.The influential playmaker in the Cougars engine room knows exactly what is at stake with a host of teams hovering around, waiting to take advantage of any slip-ups Cougars may have.“We know PHC could be within two points and apply pressure on us if we come up short this week, therefore we would not be taking this game or any other game for granted because this is the time of the year that you have to string together results for whatever situation you are in.”PHC’s clash with Robin Hood at Goose Gosling Field kicks off at 9pm, while Village host Flanagan’s at Bernard Park looking to continue their good run of form tomorrow.They have take seven points out of a possible nine in the second half of the season and are unbeaten in the league since the turn of the year.Tomorrow’s remaining match will see St George’s travel to Southampton Oval to play Southampton Rangers, with kick off for Sunday’s matches set for 3pm.
