Person headlines jazz show
For jazz aficionados who like nothing better than kicking back on a Sunday afternoon and listening to some fine sounds, there is good news. On November 30 at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts, visiting US tenor saxophonist Houston Person will be joined by local stars Randy Lambert and Tempo and Deletta Gillespie in a three-hour programme of memorable jazz music. The concert will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The internationally acclaimed Mr. Person launched his successful solo career in 1961. In addition to countless engagements he has recorded over 75 albums under his own name, and has appeared as guest artist on the recordings of many top artists, including Etta Jones, Lena Horne, Lou Rawls, Dakota Staton, Horace Silver, Charles Brown and many more. He is also a well-known producer.
Mr. Person has won many awards for his recordings, many of them for his own compositions.
Today, he is a well-established contemporary jazz artist who has also received many personal honours. Numerous of his recordings on the HighNote label have reached No. 1 on the GAVIN Jazz Chart and its successor, the Yellow Dog Jazz Chart.
Mr. Person's newest recording, 'Dialogues', with bassist Ron Carer, is also on the HighNote label.
For his November 30 performance, the saxophonist will be backed by Alan White (piano), William Winfield (drums) and Per-Ola-Gadd (bass).
