And to make the dream a reality the Association will hold a Tag Day tomorrow to raise funds for the special children's project.

"The purpose of the fund raising is to send young children with Type I diabetes away to a summer camp at Elliot P. Joslin in Massachusetts,'' explained Jacqui Neath-Myrie, project coordinator for the Association. "At the moment we would like to send six children, but there could be more.'' Diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly convert sugar and starch. It is due to a deficiency in the production or effectiveness of the hormone insulin.

It can lead to several health problems.

Those with Type I diabetes receive insulin to control the disease. It results from antibodies which strike insulin cells in the pancreas leading to a decreased insulin production.

Although the Tag Day is not until tomorrow, the fund raiser has gotten off to a healthy start thanks to the generosity of the Hamilton Lions Club.

"The Hamilton Lions Club has kick-started the campaign with a $4,000 donation,'' she revealed. "This fund raiser is also part of our 20th Anniversary celebrations.'' Volunteers will be selling tags throughout the Central and Eastern parishes tomorrow, but those eager to support the cause can pick up a tag from individuals outside of Lindo's and MarketPlace stores as well as Somers Supermarket in St. George's.
