Alexander Christopher, who now resides in the US, pleaded guilty to driving a motorcycle while impaired, having no insurance, riding an unlicensed vehicle, having no headgear and driving while disqualified on October 29, 1993.

Christopher was seen by Police on Front Street driving against the flow of traffic down Parliament Street, Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said. He then turned up Burnaby Hill, once again driving against the flow of the traffic.

Sgt. Grant said Christopher continued down Reid Street with the Police in pursuit, down Queen Street and right onto Front Street where he attempted a U-turn and fell to the pavement. Throughout the pursuit Christopher was not wearing a helmet, and the Police noticed that the vehicle he was riding was unlicensed. The motorcycle was also not insured and Christopher was disqualified from driving, Sgt. Grant said.

Christopher was taken to Hamilton Police Station where Police noticed that his eyes were glazed and his speech was slurred, he refused to give a breath sample.

"Welcome back to Bermuda,'' Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp said to Christopher before fining him $400 for driving while impaired, $500 for driving while disqualified, $125 for driving an unlicensed vehicle, $150 for no insurance and $75 for wearing no headgear. She also banned Christopher from driving all motor vehicles for a year for driving while impaired and while disqualified.

DISQUALIFIED, FINED FOR DRUNK DRIVING CTS Disqualified, fined for drunk driving A 30-year-old Pembroke this week learned that drinking and driving can be costly. Gilbert Pico-Ferine, of Crow Lane, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving while impaired on March 21.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that Ferine was seen leaving Elbow Beach Hotel in his car when he drove by a parked Police vehicle.

Ferine was swerving in the road, Sgt. Grant said, and Police followed him and noticed that he kept looking in his rear-view mirror.

Ferine turned down St. Paul's Lane and continued down South Road when the Police stopped him. The officer noticed that Ferine had glazed eyes and asked him if he had been drinking.

"I had five beers,'' he replied.

Ferine was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was found to have 153 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, Sgt. Grant said.

Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp ordered Ferine to pay a $400 fine and banned him from driving for a year.

WOMAN ADMITS STEALING BOTTLES OF RUM CTS Woman admits stealing bottles of rum A 31-year-old Smith's Parish woman who stole two bottles of rum from a supermarket appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday. Dawnelynn Saltus Mallory admitted stealing the Black Seal rum worth $37.85 from the MarketPlace supermarket on Church Street on March 18.

The store manager spotted Mallory placing the bottles in her bag, said Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant. On leaving the store she was stopped and searched and later admitted the theft.

Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp ordered a social inquiry report for the woman. Bail was set at $500.

DRUNK MAN CRASHED HIS CAR INTO WALL CTS Drunk man crashed his car into wall A social inquiry report was ordered in Magistrates' Court yesterday for a 19-year-old man who went on a drunken joyride after losing his job.

Karim Tucker of Curving Avenue, Pembroke claimed he did not care about his life when he jumped in his mother's car for a joyride to Somerset.

He pleaded guilty to drunk and dangerous driving without a driver's licence.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said Police on patrol near Elys Harbour just after 6 a.m. stopped to investigate a damaged wall.

Although no vehicles were present at the scene, Tucker appeared, walking in a drunken state.

He admitted crashing his car which the officers later found embedded in a wall at the foot of Scaur Hill.

Yesterday Tucker claimed at the time his life "didn't matter''. But Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp replied: "You should be more concerned about your life. You can always get another job.'' She set bail at $500 with a like surety and ordered a social inquiry report be prepared.

MAN FINED FOR DRINKING IN PUBLIC CTS Man fined for drinking in public A 30-year-old man caught drinking in a public place was fined $100 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Clarence Butterfield of Sandys Parish admitted the offence, adding he was sorry and would not do it again.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said Butterfield was spotted drinking from a Coors beer can opposite Arnold's Supermarket in Sandys on April 4.

After passing sentence Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp advised the man to "find something else to do.''.
