Top DJs compete
A DJ competition, free Heineken for the first 100 people and a give-away trip to the Cayman Islands make up the Heineken Green Synergy DJ Competition.
All roads will lead to Snorkel Park tomorrow night for the Island-wide competition with the theme, Different Beats. One Vibe, featuring top DJs competing for the chance to represent Bermuda at the semi-finals.
The annual competition will feature Vybez Alliance, Flava of Natural Movement Radio and Daddy Emperor all vying for the title. Last year's winner, DJ Kaos, has declined to compete this year.
The event will begin at 10 p.m. with an early warm-up by Shock-N-Lust and Juggling Jason and an entry fee of $15 before midnight and $20 after. Judges include Juggling Jason, Hott 107.5's Thaao Dill and Dwayne Minors of Big Tyme Entertainment.
DJs will be judged on five categories: music selection, cross-over mixing, technique, crowd response and on-mic response. For musical selection, DJs are expected to play up the theme by selecting a range of music blending different genres of old, new and familiar music.
The competitors should demonstrate a successful, continuous set lining up beats, bars and melodies to gain full points in the cross-over mixing section. The DJs should have the ability to scratch and include other tricks in their set.
Crowd response will indicate the DJs ability to get the best reaction out of the crowd through energy, dance and applause. The final category, on-mic response, includes the effective use of the microphone to interact with the crowd.
The winner will be flown to the Cayman Islands next month along with a lucky audience member. Everyone who attends the competition is eligible to win a trip to the semi-finals.
Organisers said music will be played from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. with the competition beginning at 12 a.m. The party will continue once the competition has finished.
