Webster professor starting a new course

A Webster University professor is in Bermuda to launch a human resource development programme for the local chapter.

Professor of Human Resource Development Gary Kannenberg is visiting for the next few weeks from Webster's home campus in St. Louis, Missouri.

Human Resource Development is one of the four graduate programmes which the local branch of Webster University will offer.

Like all classes taught locally at Webster, the human recourse programme is a graduate programme and is designed to focus on the development skills and knowledge necessary to work in various settings.

It draws upon the theory of social and behavioural science and management, and is concerned with maximising the importance of the human element in organisational structures.

The one significant advantage is that the programme in Bermuda runs for four weeks, while courses in other countries normally run for up to eight weeks.

"Our students can of course use the various campuses,'' Mr. Kannenberg pointed out.

Webster's local director Helen Pearman Ziral noted that there is an advantage for the lecturers also.

"Faculty from Bermuda and other countries can move between the various campuses,'' she said.

Mr. Kannenberg noted that the lecturing team at Webster offer the necessary component to aid students in their studies.

Mrs. Pearman Ziral added: "Most professors are qualified, many having obtained doctorates.'' Mr. Kannenberg elaborated, saying that the lecturing team offers "theoretical, academic, and practical education''.

He explained that many of the professors have worked in their fields before and have had the necessary experience.

Mrs. Pearman Ziral explained: "Currently there are 13 persons in the participating group with three persons who have shown interest in joining the human resource area.'' As for the growing base of Webster worldwide, the university will soon open a campus in Cha-am, Thailand.
