Police warn the public on harbouring a fugitive

The Police have issued a renewed appeal for help to find suspected gunman Omari Gordon.

The 26-year-old has been on the run since allegedly shooting at Police following a chase across the back of town in the early hours of Saturday November 29.

He disappeared in the Middletown area and is believed to be being harboured by friends or relatives.

Yesterday, a Police spokesman said: "It is clear that members of the community are providing food and shelter for Mr. Gordon. When he is brought to justice those individuals will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Omari Gordon, whether in a direct or indirect manner, should contact Police or risk prosecution. The public should now be aware that aiding and abetting a fugitive is a crime and punishable by a fine and or a term of imprisonment."

Crimestoppers is offering $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information should call Inspector Steven Lightbourne on 299 4315 or the independent Crime Stoppers hot line on 1-800-623-8477.

Crewman killed in fall on tanker

A Panamanian-registered oil tanker will arrive in Bermuda this morning after heavy seas killed one crew member and caused severe injuries to another. Teseo, en route to New York from Algeria, was diverted to the Island when the vessel was a couple of days east of Bermuda.

According to the duty officer at the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre, the ship was en route when it encountered heavy seas.

The duty officer said: "Two people were working on deck and they took a rogue wave, one that's unexpected and unusually high, over the bow. It sent the two persons onto the surrounding deck. One of them was killed and the other sustained injuries that need hospital treatment.

"The ship was in contact with the medical professionals at the US Coast Guard who recommended evacuation as soon as possible on the injured crew person."

The ship is scheduled to arrive in Bermuda waters at 11.30 a.m.
