Bermuda's history were released on bail in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Barbara and William Roberts, parents of champion powerboat racer Kirk Roberts, were each released on $150,000 bail with two sureties two weeks after they were initially charged and remanded in custody.

Mrs. Roberts, 59, along with her 71-year-old husband William, have been charged with -- being concerned with others not before the court -- possessing $1.5 million worth of cocaine intended for supply.

The pair were also accused of knowingly handling cocaine intended for supply and having 36 plastic bags, kitchen scales and a knife in connection with a controlled drug.

Mrs. Roberts appeared at yesterday morning's Plea Court session without her husband, who was in hospital recovering from emergency treatment.

She broke down in tears and was comforted by her son Kirk, after Senior Magistrate Will Francis set her bail conditions.

Mr. Francis ordered her to surrender all travel documents and report to the Police every Monday and Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Mr. Roberts, who later appeared before Mr. Francis, was granted the same bail terms.

The couple, from West Side Road, Sandys Parish, are owners of the North Basin Yacht Co. Ltd. in Dockyard. They were represented by lawyer Richard Hector and have not been required to enter pleas.
