Impaired driver banned after crashing BMW
A drunk driver crashed her BMW convertible car in the rain after swerving to avoid an animal in the road.
Alante Trott, 22, appeared in court yesterday in respect of the crash on June 22 in Somerset Road, Sandys. She pleaded guilty to impaired driving.
Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court Trott was travelling east at 12.50 a.m when her car collided with a wall. When officers spoke to her, she smelled of alcohol, her eyes were glazed and she was slurring her words.
She apologised, and said: "Officers, I will be honest, I came from Woody's and I had a few to drink."
She told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner yesterday: "My intent was to take my friend home safely to my house. I saw something run across the road, I don't know what it was an animal."
Trott explained that she swerved to avoid the creature but her car slid because it was wet.
Mr. Warner fined her $1,000, banned her from driving for a year and meted out ten demerit points.
