Young Shimon Alkon ended with two points from 11 rounds of play at the just completed World Championship of Juniors and Youth in Chess in Bratislava,
Alkon failed to add to an earlier win against a competitor from Botswana, but given the high calibre of play still produced a creditable performance at his first international tournament.
Many of the 17-year-old's losses were closely fought affairs as he became progressively better as the event went on. And he will no doubt be putting the lessons learned to use locally.
