Remand for man on threat to kill charge

A Pembroke man has been accused of assaulting a woman and threatening to kill her, along with conspiring to obstruct the course of justice.Prince Edness, 25, of St. John’s Road, denied the charges in Magistrates’ Court.Crown counsel Kirsty-Ann Kiellor said that shortly before midnight on February 4, Chantice Butterfield went to meet friends at a Hamilton bar.It is alleged that while she queued for a drink, Mr Edness said: “Did you come here to set us up?”It was further alleged that Mr Edness approached her outside the bar and said: “Don’t come round here no more. I’ll kill you and your friends.”Ms Kiellor said the defendant also threw a drink in Ms Butterfield’s face, and slapped her.The court heard that while in police custody, Mr Edness called Ms Butterfield and said that she would be safe if the charges were dropped.Ms Butterfield also received text messages telling her to withdraw the charges, and that she would be paid if she did so.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Mr Edness into police custody and set a trial date of May 2.
