Decade-old College financial statements tabled in House of Assembly

Bermuda College financial statements from the year 1992 were tabled in the House of Assembly on Friday morning.

Education Minister Terry Lister tabled the reports and consolidated financial statements from the College for the years 1992-1993, 1993-1994, and 1994-1995, saying the reports contained such a ?volume? of information that he would be unable to do justice to them by merely speaking on them in the time allotted to him.

He did not explain in the House why the reports have not been tabled before 2004 ? or when the public can expect to see reports from the years 1995-1996 and onwards. was unable to contact Mr. Lister for further details last night.

The Minister did offer some details from the reports in the House of Assembly on Friday morning, such as the change in leadership at the College from Dr. A.C. Hallett to Dr. George Cook.

Since then, Dr. Michael Orenduff has taken over from Dr. Cook, and Dr. Charles Green has taken over from Dr. Orenduff.

The reports also detailed the introduction of Associate Degrees at the College, he said, as well as a visit in September, 1993 from Queen Elizabeth II.

Attempts to restore the hotel formerly known as Stonington Beach ? now a private hotel called Coco Reef ? to profitability and the College?s 20th anniversary in 1994-1995 were also detailed.

The College wound up a week-long celebration of their 30th anniversary this Saturday with the 2004 Spelldown.

Auditor General Larry Dennis complained in 1997 that financial statements for the College had not been given to his office in at least ten years.
