A gun was seized and seven people arrested in a massive Police raid on a house in Middletown early yesterday morning.

A total of 20 officers, some armed, descended on the house on Middletown Lane in Pembroke just before 5 a.m ? storming into the premises unchallenged. Seven individuals ? two females aged 41 and twenty, a 15-year old boy and four 20-year old men ? were arrested immediately while a gun and as yet unknown quantities marijuana and cocaine were also found.

The seven are currently being held at Hamilton Police Station for questioning, while the officer in charge of the crime scene yesterday, Inspector Othneal Haynes would part with few other details.

The Middletown area is no stranger to Police raids given the comparatively large number of disturbances and drug-related crime which has been reported in the area over the last few years. Just two months ago, law-abiding residents of the relatively poor neighbourhood were thrown into a state of terror and shock as a furious gang battle involving petrol bombs and machetes played out on the narrow streets. Sixteen thugs, all dressed in black with hoods covering their faces, caused chaos in the neighbourhood in what was thought to have been a meticulously planned attack.
