Inspired Paget stun rangers for firest win

A week after beating Vasco to go top of the Second Division, Rangers relinquished that lead and their unbeaten record at Southampton Oval.

Bottom team Paget, without a win in the league all season, hit back from last week's 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Somerset Eagles and moved off the bottom with this well deserved win as a penalty miss in the second half by Rangers' Ascento Russell proved costly.

Rangers had to wait until the 44th minute to take the lead through Corey Simmons as Paget, with Anthony (Rango) Stovell replacing Duval Minors as coach, looked a revived bunch.

It was the Paget player/coach, the former PHC midfielder, who brought them back level in the 51st minute with a shot from 30 yards. After the penalty miss Stovell's nephew Shawn Stovell made Rangers pay with the winner in the 87th minute as he lobbed a header over the advancing Bernie Woods from a breakaway.

"The spirit was really high,'' admitted Paget president Collins Smith. "It was a good day for us and everybody is pleased. A change of coach seems to have done something.'' Somerset Eagles 2, Vasco 4 Ricky Mallory scored a hat-trick as Vasco beat Somerset Eagles at White Hill field to return to the top of the standings.

Vasco led 1-0 at the half and extended that lead to 3-0 before Eagles fought back to 3-2 with Everett Wellman getting the first and Anthony Basden the second from the penalty spot after Wellman had been pulled down. Vasco's other goal came from Larance Durham.

Wolves 2, Prospect 0 Wolves picked up their third straight win to move a couple of places further up the standings after Marlon Lindsay and Dion Wainwright scored the goals in the opening match at Devonshire Rec.

Lindsay pounced on a half-clearance by the goalkeeper in the 56th minute to open the scoring.

Wainwright secured the points two minutes from time when he raced into the box and hooked a left-foot shot into the far top corner as referee Roddy Burchall allowed him the advantage with an opponent pulling his shirt.

Devonshire Cougars 3, BAA 2 Devonshire Cougars were involved in a 3-2 result for the second straight weekend, and while they finished on the winning end this time they paid a price by having two players sent off at Devonshire Rec.

Norman Correia had shot BAA in front in the 23rd minute and it stayed that way until the 59th minute when Sheldon Franks equalised for Cougars. Cougars' last two goals and two sendings-off came soon after each other as they were left to hang on for victory.

Franks got his marching orders from referee Cal Simons for violent conduct in the 78th minute only to see Cougars respond by taking the lead for the first time a minute later through a well-struck goal from substitute James Raynor.

Corey Smith made it 3-1 in the 82nd minute before Brenton Peterson got his marching orders, also for violent conduct, moments later. Leo Smith made the scoreline close with BAA's second goal in the 89th minute.

Port Royal 0, Social Club 4 Rembert Hill took his tally for the season to 10 when he scored twice at White Hill field to help third-placed Social Club to victory over Port Royal.

Troy Darrell (his seventh goal of the season) and Webster Mills were the other scorers for Social Club who moved a point behind former leaders Rangers.

Port Royal's fifth in six games drops them to the bottom of the standings on goal difference.
