The retrial of accused robber Roger Eugene Lightbourne began yesterday in Supreme Court.

Lightbourne, 27, of Sound View Road, Sandys, allegedly -- with another man who admitted to his part in the robbery -- stole some $700 and a cash register from Roosters Restaurant on Court Street during the early hours of January 28, last year.

Crown Counsel Mr. Peter DeJulio yesterday told the three men, nine woman jury that two men -- one believed to be Lightbourne -- entered the restaurant around 2.30 a.m. and demanded money from the female cashier.

It was alleged that Lightbourne then jumped over the service counter and shouted at the woman to "open the till'', which she unsuccessfully tried to do.

After attempting to open the cash register himself, the court heard, Lightbourne allegedly picked up the register and through it at the plexiglass guard around the cash register.

Eventually, Lightbourne is alleged to have escaped with the cash register on a moped with an accomplice who was identified as Kimani Fubler.

Police later found Lightbourne's sweater and the empty cash register, Mr.

DeJulio said.

Lightbourne, who is represented by Mr. Archie Warner, was later arrested with the same amount of stolen money on him.

The jury also heard from three prosecution witnesses, including Roosters night manager Reio Hollis and cashier Kimberley Clarke who were both in the store at the time of the incident.

Clarke -- who managed to run to the back of the restaurant after the cash register ordeal -- said she saw Fubler's face when his hood came off during a struggle at the back of the restaurant.

She will return to the witness stand today when the case continues before Puisne Judge the Hon. Mr. Justice Meerabux.
