Lightbourne questioned a Police officer as to whether he had identified the correct cash register which was taken from the restaurant.

But Pc. Jerome C. Simons said he had labelled the cash register that was stolen and later found during the early morning robbery on January 28 last year.

Lightbourne, 27, of Sound View Road, Sandys Parish, is accused of stealing a cash register containing some $700 from Roosters Restaurant on Court Street.

Crown Counsel Mr. Peter DeJulio alleges that Lightbourne entered the restaurant around 2.30 a.m. with another man and demanded that cashier Kimberley Clarke hand over cash from the till.

When she was unable to open the cash register, Lightbourne allegedly attempted to open it himself. He then allegedly threw it against a plexiglass guard before escaping with it on a moped together with Kimani Fubler.

Lightbourne is being tried a second time after a November trial ended with a hung jury.

Last week a second cash register was presented to the cashier who, in the first trial, stated that the register she was first shown was the one taken from the restaurant.

However, last week she said that the second larger, keyless register shown to her was the one used at the restaurant where she had worked for four years.

When asked by defence lawyer Mr. Archibald Warner what made her change her mind Clarke replied: "I was told the wrong cash register came to court.'' The trial continues today before Puisne Judge the Hon. Mr. Justice Meerabux.
