And about 60 passengers who were bound for New York from Trinidad aboard a British West Indian Airlines jet were diverted to Bermuda.

The storm, which dropped more than a foot of snow on New York City, shut airports, schools and businesses and forced The New York Mercantile Exchange to close early.

All three of New York City's airports -- LaGuardia, Newark and Kennedy -- were closed to arrivals, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Boston and Philadelphia flights were also disrupted.

This morning's American Airlines flight to New York is cancelled, because the plane was unable to depart Kennedy Airport last night for its 9.45 p.m.

arrival, local manager Mrs. Carole DeCouto told The Royal Gazette .

About 90 passengers were booked on the inbound flight, while about 100 were due to depart this morning, she said.

Continental Airlines Flight 343 to Bermuda from Newark was cancelled yesterday, as was the return trip to Newark, Flight 360.

Delta's Flight 210 to Boston was cancelled yesterday, as is the return trip today, Flight 211.

The USAir flight left Bermuda on schedule yesterday, but it was diverted to Baltimore from Philadelphia.

Local airline officials said it was the worst American winter they could recall in many years. Today was the second time American's morning flight to New York was cancelled due to weather, Mrs. DeCouto said.
